Brisbane: Support Our Cause through Funeral Donations

Donating to a good cause is a very Australian thing to do. On a global level, we’re a charitable country but sometimes we can find ourselves with too many causes to support but not enough money to go around. Thankfully there is a way you can donate to your favourite cause through funeral donations. Part of our mission at Frog Development & Research Project is to spread the word on how to support the conservation of our ecosystem in clever ways.

Donations before or after the funeral service

Ultimately funerals are a time of sadness. But they are also an opportunity to help the environment and the ecosystem. Funeral donations work in two ways.

  1. Planned donation: Leaving a nominated dollar amount that is to be donated to an organisation of your choice.
  2. Collection of donations at memorial: Giving funeral attendees the chance to donate small change to the cause of your choice.

We get it, you’re thinking this is going to be hard to organise and even harder to manage. It’s not. In fact your funeral director can take care of all of it for you. There are a couple of things you need to decide on to be able to make a change.

1. Choose a Charity

There thousands of charities to choose from, however we recommend visiting the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (that will take you straight to their charities search page) and use their search tool to find a charity that aligns with your values.

You can search by charity name or ABN, you can also search by charity location. Using the advanced search feature you can select ‘who the charity helps’ from a drop-down list.

You can also browse by topic.

2. Choose a Funeral Director in Brisbane

If you don’t already have a funeral director to help you, you will need to choose one. If you do not know of any local funeral homes we recommend searching Google for companies near you that offer burial & cremation services. Funeral Directors Australia is the countries largest funerary directory. You can click this link to find an up-to-date list of funeral directors in Brisbane. The website also has a Brisbane Top 10 Funeral Directors list for same city.

Speak with a few different companies because you need to make sure they are happy to manage donations. Most established companies will have experience.

3. Plan the Donations

Speak with your chosen company about how you would like to plan the donations. If collecting at the memorial service is your preferred method, perhaps you would like to hand around hat or a bowl. If you would sooner donate in the form of a gift after death, include the details in your will so that your family know how to distribute the estate. You should also inform the funeral home so they can mention the charity during the service to raise awareness among the guests at the funeral.

We hope this helps you find a way to donate to a good cause that helps our environment, saves our ecosystem and protects our endangered frogs for future generations.
