New Home Found - Volunteers
Needed
We have at last found
what we hope will be a long-term rental property. To make this location
successful for our operations, we can use some help with various setup
and logistical tasks. A big focus here in light of our failed fundraising
efforts this past year is to find ways of cutting costs and possibly generating
small amounts of income.
- We will need people
with vehicles and spare time during the day to shuttle frogs from receiving
vets to us in Edmonton and to pick up sick and injured frogs from those
who can't get them to a receiving vet.
- We are expanding
our bug breeding operations to hopefully allow some local sales to try
to bring in more money. The tanks need daily maintenance and occasional
cleaning. Several high school students who each come in after school
one day a week would be ideal.
- The more food we
can grow here ourselves, the less money we will be spending on food
for our bug tanks. There are several fruit trees here already but they
need some pruning and attention to make them productive. Someone with
arborist experience would be helpful.
- We plan on putting
in ponds and more natives but the supplies for these things are beyond
us to pay for. We will need top soil in this location, tools for digging
into compacted soil, bird and butterfly attracting native shrubs, railway
ties or other edging material for raised beds, and a few different styles
of molded containers as "ponds" to install. If you are a nursery
or landscape materials supplier, please think about donating some materials
in exchange for credit in our website and a certificate for your showroom.
- Space is at a premium
in this location so we need to find creative ways of accommodating function
with storage. Cabinet makers or anyone with basic carpentry skills is
needed to help make various units for storage. Wood donated by suppliers
or hardware shops would be a great bonus, too.
If you can help with
any of the items above, please contact us on 4045-0373 after 12 noon.
